About Lame Ungwang, Sally Zhang,
and their research projects
Lame Ungwang
PhD candidate, Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena
Sally Zhang
PhD candidate, Stanford University
In addition to the 2 main awardees of our 2021 research grant, SurveyCTO awarded partial grants to 10 additional researchers. In this webinar, we feature two researchers from that cohort: Lame Ungwang (PhD candidate at Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena) and Sally Zhang (PhD candidate at Stanford University). They will both present on their projects which focus on gender and women’s issues in development.
Lame’s project is titled “Nudging technology adoption: Experimental evidence on menstrual cup uptake in Botswana.” In this study, she explores the effects of information framing and the choice environment on encouraging individual adoption of new technology using the menstrual cup among young women in Botswana. Lame is passionate about this issue and sees her project as an intersection between academia, non-profit work, and activism.
Sally’s project is titled “Hidden Income, Household Survey, and Intrahousehold Inequality.” In this project she dives into questions about household income inequalities to understand the role of information in households, as revealed in household surveys. She believes that intrahousehold dynamics is an important area of research that has important implications for future designs of household surveys and welfare policies.
