SurveyCTO Presentation Series: How IPA Enhanced Candidate Discovery in Rural Sierra Leone with Advanced Offline Features

Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is a leading global research and policy nonprofit working with local decision-makers in over 20 countries globally. Their work focuses on creating and putting evidence into action in the fight against poverty. In Sierra Leone, IPA has operated since 2009 and they have partnered with numerous organizations in sectors that include agriculture, mining, women’s empowerment, social protection, governance, and health. 

In a recent project, the IPA Sierra Leone team sought to address the high barriers of entry faced by candidates who want to run for local political office. The team conducted multiple surveys, first to interview communities to identify popular nominees and assess their quality. Finally, they presented high-popularity and high-quality nominees to local political parties to allow them to make informed decisions. All of the data collection work for this project was powered by SurveyCTO’s new advanced offline features. In this webinar, an IPA Sierra Leone team member will share how these features helped to simplify their workflows, save time in the field, and expand their reach.

Kevin is a Research Associate at IPA’s Sierra Leone office, supporting research that looks to improve candidate quality in local council elections. Prior to joining IPA, he worked at J-PAL North America managing stakeholder relations and evidence dissemination for various research projects. He has also worked at MIT Solve on their M&E team and as a research assistant on projects studying domestic violence and COVID-19.
