Right To Play is a global non-profit organization with a mission to protect, educate and empower children to rise above adversity using the power of play. The organization works in more than 15 countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Canada. In Canada, Right To Play provides play-based, after-school programming for children and youth in Indigenous communities to promote health and psychosocial well-being. This work is done in collaboration with community mentors on the ground who play an important role in collecting attendance data and other data using SurveyCTO. This data is crucial for Right To Play’s Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) activities.

An important aspect of Right To Play’s data collection activities in Indigenous communities in Canada is the First Nations principles of ownership, control, access, and possession (OCAP). These principles assert that when data is collected in Indigenous communities, they should have full control over the data collection processes and should own and control how this information can be used. In this webinar, we will hear how Right To Play operationalized the OCAP principles in their data collection workflows to ensure privacy and accountability. We will hear from two members of the Right to Play Canada MEL team: Bamidele Aderibigbe and Alejandra Fandino Hoshino.

Alejandra is the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Coordinator and has been working with the Right To Play Canada team since June 2022. In her role, she supports data collection and evaluation of the organization’s programs across Canada.

Bamidele is the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Manager at Right To Play Canada since September 2021. His role is to guide and develop the organization’s MEL systems in support of various programs, including Indigenous community programs.
