Need to set up mobile devices for data collection? Even when you don’t have physical access to those devices? New SurveyCTO Collect features now make it possible to remotely manage the quick and secure configuration of Android devices. These features support more decentralized operations by allowing enumerators to collect data without lengthy onboarding and administrators to ensure data security even when personal enumeration devices are being used.
These improvements to SurveyCTO Collect are part of a series of rolling product updates to introduce new functionality as quickly as possible. These updates are available as early release versions of SurveyCTO Collect, the most recent of which have introduced enhanced security with app-based storage and robust features for phone surveys. You can get access to the latest early release version of the Android app here (click on “Download the early release version”), and you can learn more about its features below.
Why should I use this early release version?
You’ll get access to features not available in the current version of SurveyCTO Collect that allow you to overcome remote work limitations and more easily set up devices for secure data collection.
What are the features?
The improvements to SurveyCTO Collect are made possible through a server console update on the Collect tab that has automatically been applied to all servers (see the new Mobile data collection section). Here’s what the latest version of SurveyCTO Collect offers:
- Default device configurations: Flexibility to create default device configurations for specific user roles within the server console that include device settings for passcodes and storage, forms for auto-download, the cases dataset for case management workflows, and setup instructions.
- Easy setup instructions for users: Option to include customized installation guidance within the server console. These instructions can be accessed with a hyperlink shared via email, SMS, WhatsApp, or scannable QR codes.
- Quick setup wizard: With one click, SurveyCTO Collect will automatically connect to the server and download and apply the default device configuration for that specific role.
With these features, once default device configurations are set up, all enumerators will need to begin working are the quick setup URL and their username and password. This Support Center guide offers detailed instructions and best practices on setting up configurations. Additionally, read this overview on how SurveyCTO can be used for decentralizing data collection operations.
This release is only available for the Android Collect app and not the iOS app. Refer to the full release notes for more details.
